English Edition Paru Itagaki Format: Paperback Fantasy Editorial Review
**Editorial Review of BEASTARS, Vol. 1** BEASTARS, Vol. 1 presents a unique blend of genres that captures readers with its engaging narrative and memorable characters. From the outset, it skillfully intertwines romance with action and crime elements, appealing to those looking for more than just a straightforward storyline. The protagonist, Legoshi, resonates deeply with many readers, particularly those who can relate to feelings of misjudgment and social anxiety. This adds a layer of emotional depth that sets it apart from typical manga offerings. The artistic style and character design are notable highlights, with numerous readers praising Legoshi's appeal, indicating that his design is both "cute" and captivating, contributing significantly to the overall enjoyment of the series. Critics may initially dismiss the manga due to its anthropomorphic characters, likening it to "furry" narratives. However, fans strongly argue that these animal characters exist in their own unique, crafted world rather than fitting into the furry genre, enhancing the intriguing blend of themes reminiscent of darker tales like Zootopia but directed towards an older audience. For newcomers to manga and anime alike, BEASTARS, Vol. 1 serves as an excellent entry point. Many recommend checking out the anime as a precursor to diving into the manga, although they caution that it may not capture all the intricate details. Overall, BEASTARS, Vol. 1 is celebrated as a worthwhile investment, promising satisfaction through its storytelling, world-building, and character exploration. **
