This configuration—with 10x8 and 12x9 rack toms, 14x12 and 16x14 floor toms and an 22x18 bass drum—suits drummers who crave rich, warm projection in live or studio settings. Serious players looking for a uniquely voiced kit will find detailed clarity and resonance in every stroke. VLT Shells Deliver Focused Tone and Shorter Note DW’s VLT (Vertical Low Timbre) shell design turns walnut plies, so their grain runs vertically. This construction produces a lower fundamental pitch and greater resonance than horizontal plies. Walnut’s dense character adds richness and clarity, delivering a punchy, articulate response with a shortened sustain. This process highlights the wood’s deep grain and texture while protecting it from marks or scratches. Each shell is handcrafted in DW’s California Custom Shop for consistent quality and visual detail. The finish is paired with black nickel hardware for a cohesive, understated look. Hardware Choices Support Precision and Tuning Stability True Hoops and True-Pitch 50 tension rods anchor each drum, maintaining even head tension and reducing detuning during hard play. STM (Suspended Tom Mounts) isolate each tom for full shell resonance and eliminate unwanted noise transfer. Each shell is fitted with DW’s patented drum hardware, including STM mounts, True Hoops and True-Pitch 50 tension rods. This hardware package is standard across the DW Collector’s Series for dependable performance.
