Parliament Format: Audio CD Editorial Review
**** The debut album from the early version of George Clinton's Parliament, released in 1970, offers a unique glimpse into the band's origins, diverging from their more well-known later sounds. Reviewers have praised the collection of tracks, highlighting standout songs like "My Automobile," "I Call My Baby Pussycat," and the haunting "The Silent Boatman," which intriguingly features bagpipes. The overall vibe of the album is described as soulful, employing a sound that is less eclectic and funk-driven compared to the later incarnations of Parliament and Funkadelic. Many listeners appreciate the rawness of this album, which feels more akin to a Funkadelic record, providing an authenticity that is often missed in more polished productions. The musicianship is celebrated, with Eddie Hazel's guitar playing and Bernie Worrell's keyboard work drawing specific admiration for their talent and contribution to the funk genre. Although some critics point out that the album lacks cohesiveness and is more like a collection of singles, it remains enjoyable for fans of funk, soul, and R&B. Overall, this album is recommended for both die-hard fans of Parliament and those interested in the roots of the funk movement. It's a musical journey through varied styles and showcases the foundational sounds that would later influence countless genres. **
